MPE Activity or
Term

MPT Process or
Term

These functions are equivalent, except for the following features:

Set Control Event

Program Control

MPT has the ability to log the counters (channel counters,
sequence counters, and profile counters) along with the message
that gets logged.

In MPT, Pause State is a modified Hold state that is initiated by
the application, and from which the application can automatically
resume. Conversely, if the application or operator puts the test
into Hold, then operator intervention is required to resume the
test.

MPE does not support this feature.

In MPT, Groups are principally used to implement looping and
organization.

While Loop

Repeat loop

Groups

MPE has no direct equivalent to Groups. The closest things are the
Repeat Loop and the While Loop activities.

In MPT, the iterator for a Group can appear in the sequence counters.
This is not supported in MPE.

MPT uses triggers to determine control flow. This allows multiple
processes to be active at once.

Parallel Paths

Start and Interrupt
Triggers

In MPE, running multiple activities at the same time requires the use
of the Parallel Paths activity.

The calculation syntax and execution model is different between MPT
and MPE, but this process and activity are similar in what they can
do.

Assign Variable

MPT Calculation

MPT calculates the expressions in the specified order.

MPE determines the dependencies between the calculations and
calculates them based on that information.

The MPT process and MPE activity are similar in that they request
operator input. They are different in the following ways:

Input Parameters

Operator
Information

The MPE activity logs operator changes to the test run and
application logs. This addresses some of the FDA requirements
for traceability.

The MPT process optionally allows the values to be written to the
data file. MPE does not have an equivalent to this action.
