U- Carefully remove the cam cover. Determine the cover to gear clearance by measuring the impression left in the clay by the gear at its

thinnest point. Clearance should be .030” or more. If clearance is less than .030”, or if the cover contacts the gear, remove only enough
material from the cam cover to obtain the correct clearance. Repeat Steps T and U if necessary.

CAUTION

Be careful not to grind too deeply and break through to the outside of the cam cover. Damage to the cam cover caused by removing too
much material is not covered under warranty.

V- Use a new cam cover gasket and install the cam cover. Tighten the cover bolts 90-120 in-lbs torque in sequence shown. See Figure 4.

CAUTION

W- Remove the clips to release the lifters. If necessary, place the transmission in high gear and turn the wheel to rotate the engine until both

lifter for the front cylinder are at the lowest point. On the camshaft (TDC of the compression stroke for the front piston).

X- Loosen the locknuts on the adjustable pushrods and turn the adjusters to make all of the rods as short as possible.
Y- The longer S&S® pushrods are for the exhaust valves and the shorter pushrod are for the intake. Pass one long and one short pushrod

through the assembled pushrod covers. Place pushrod and cover assemblies through the lifter cover. Inner tappet holes are for the intake
pushrods and the outer tappet holes are for the exhaust pushrods. While holding a new gasket under the lifter cover, install push rod,
pushrod cover, lifter cover and gasket as an assembly; tighten the lifter cover screws to 95 in-lbs torque.

NOTE: Pushrod adjustment. If using unmodified OEM tappets perform steps 3-A thru 3-D to adjust the pushrods. (See below) If S&S HL2T kit has been
installed in the tappets, proceed to steps 4-A thru 4-F.

3- Pushrod Adjustment Procedures for Unmodified Stock Tappets.

A- Turn the adjuster screw to lengthen the exhaust pushrod until the pushrod has no vertical movement but still rotates with light finger

pressure. Extend the pushrod by rotating the adjuster screw an additional 20 flats (31/2 revolutions) and secure the adjuster screw with
the locknut.

B- Repeat steps 2-5 for intake pushrod.
C- Front lifters should bleed down in 5-10 minutes, allowing pushrods to be rotated with light finger pressure. Extend the pushrod covers and

install the cover clips.

Figure 4

Rotating the engine before the lifters have bled down may damage pushrods and other components not covered under warranty.

D- Rotate the engine until both lifter for the rear cylinder are at the lowest point on the camshaft (TDC of the compression stroke for the rear

piston). Repeat steps A-D for rear pushrods.
