vertically, with open sides facing in same direction, engaging floor and ceiling runners, and spaced maximum

Љ o.c. Place studs in direct contact with all door jambs, abutting partitions, partition corners, and existing

structural elements. Anchor all studs for shelf-walls and those adjacent to door and window openings, partition
intersections, and corners to ceiling and floor runners with screws or metal lock fastener tool. Refer to USG
Literature SA923 for complete gypsum panel steel framing recommendations.

Install SAFBs after one layer of gypsum panels is applied and before panels are applied to other side of studs.

Core, shall be scored and cut from the back side of the

assembly. Panels applied with vertical end joints or vertical wrapped edges parallel to and fully supported by steel
framing. Stagger board joints 12

Љ o.c. on opposite sides of the partition. In multiple layer systems, stagger face

panel joints by 12

Љ from base layer panel joints.

2. Extend panels the full height of the partition from the floor to top runner track. To minimize end joints, use panel

of maximum practical length. Fit ends and edges closely, but do not force together.

3. Attach panels to steel studs with:

Single layer applications

1-1/2

Љ Type S or S-12 screws spaced 8Љ o.c. perimeter and 12Љ o.c. field.

Double-layer applications

Base layer: 1-1/2

Љ Type S or S-12 screws spaced 24Љ o.c. Face layer: 2-1/4Љ Type S

or S-12 screws spaced 12

Space fasteners not less than 3/8

Љ from edges and ends of panels. Drive fasteners in field of panels first,

working toward ends and edges. Hold panels in firm contact with framing while driving fasteners. Drive fastener
heads slightly below surface of gypsum panels in a uniform dimple without breaking face paper. Offset face
layer screws from base layer screws by 1

Љ. Secure face layer to base layer along horizontal joints of face layer

with 1-1/2

Љ Type G screws midway between steel framing and 1Љ from horizontal joint.

4. Install trim at all internal and external angles formed by the intersection of gypsum panels to other surfaces.

Apply corner bead to all vertical or horizontal external corners in accordance with the manufacturer’s directions.
Treat joints and fastener heads per manufacturer’s instructions.
