Replacing an R4300 Power Supply Unit (PSU)

R4300 PSUs are hot-swappable. To replace a PSU in the R4300 BackPack, do the

following:

1. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the 5 screws on the back of the Cage that

attach the fan pack.

2. Insert a finger in the slot on the left side of the fan pack and slowly pull the fan

pack out. If you are hot-swapping the fan pack, wait for the fans to stop spinning

before setting it aside.

3. Pull the failed PSU (the one with the red LED displaying) straight out until it clears

the chassis.

4. Insert the replacement PSU and push it firmly until the connector seats. A green

LED is displayed.

5. Slowly insert the new fan pack to ensure proper seating of the connector.
6. Replace the screws to secure the fan pack.

Replacing a Blade Switching or Direct Connect BackPack

If you are replacing a Blade Switching or Direct Connect BackPack, or upgrading from

a Direct Connect BackPack to a Blade Switching BackPack, do the following:

1. Shut down all Blades in the Cage.
2. Disconnect power from the BackPack.
3. Slide all eight Blades out approximately one inch.
4. Remove the fan pack per the instructions above.
5. Label and remove all cables attached to the BackPack.
6. Remove the BackPack from the rear of the Cage by removing the 2 screws

(located inside the Cage near the top of the BackPack) with a #2 Phillips

screwdriver. Make sure to save these screws. (See Figure 58.)

CAUTION: The fan pack is designed to be hot-swappable in that it can be
removed and replaced by an authorized technician with the system
power plugged in. However, be sure the new fan pack is replaced and
operating within one minute to prevent overheating the system. Never
leave a Cage with Blades running without a fan pack installed for more
than two minutes.
