Installation Instructions

The Watts Governor 80-M1 is for both existing

and new installations providing an auxiliary relief

feature, a safe antisiphon vacuum breaker and

truly dependable fill valve assembly.
The non-adjustable thermal expansion relief valve

is set standardly at 80psi (552 kPa), 100psi (6.9

bar), or 125psi (8.6 bar) with a maximum operat-

ing temperature of 110°F (135ºC) to meet existing

codes. The Watts Governor 80 is available in three

standard lengths: 10", 11

" or 12

".

Be sure

maximum water level mark is even with or

above the top of the overflow tube.
Important:
This is a control device that limits

system pressure in the event of thermal expansion.

It does not take the place of any safety relief

devices that are required by code. If the incom-

ing water pressure exceeds 65psi (448 kPa), a

pressure reducing valve must be installed at the

service entrance. If the system already contains a

pressure reducing valve, be sure it is set no higher

than 65psi (448 kPa) under a no-flow condition.
Installation Instructions For The Governor

80-M1.
1.
Shut off water supply valve. Drain tank.
2. Unscrew water supply line coupling nut from

ball cock shank beneath tank. (A small amount

of water will drain

out.) Slide cou-

pling nut down

water supply line

to be reused. If

replacement is

necessary, a new

coupling nut is provided. (See reverse side.)

3. Unscrew and remove lock nut from ball cock

shank. Remove old ballcock assembly.

4. Thread float rod into lever on top of the

Governor 80-M1. (If your tank requires a longer

threaded float rod, obtain one or reuse float rod

from old ball cock.) Thread the float onto the

float rod.

5. Insert shank through hole in bottom of tank.

Position ball cock inside tank so rod and float do

not rub against flush valve or back of tank. Hold

ball cock steady inside the tank while threading

7. Attach refill tube provided onto connector of ball

cock. Then clip the opposite end of refill tube onto

the overflow tube of flush valve so that the end of

refill tube is pointing into the overflow tube.

8. Your new ball cock is ready to use. Turn on

water. Examine for leaks. With no leaks appar-

ent, flush toilet and check for proper water level

of tank when full.

Sometimes slight adjustments have to be made

to maintain the proper water level in the tank. This

can be done by slightly bending the float rod. Bend

rod upward to allow more water into the tank or

bend downward to reduce water level.
