QuikDisc

12 inch White Balancing Tool Instruction Manual • Item# DL-1712QD

The QuikDisc™ is the perfect portable white balancing tool used to take an ac-

curate exposure meter reading using your cameras own built-in metering system.
You should have a QuikDisc 12 inch neutral grey White Balancing tool with you

wherever you do professional photography.

Obtaining an accurate white balance for SLR/DSLR cameras

Perform a white balance in accordance with your particular camera using the

following steps:
1. Remove the QuikDisc from the zippered carry bag (Figure 1).
First, prepare your camera to do a custom white balance as indicated by the

specific instructions to your camera.
Hold the QuikDisc under the same light in the same location as your subject,

making sure that the surface of the QuikDisc is getting as evenly lit as

possible. (Note: You should be using the neutral grey side of the QuikDisc.)

There is a black logo target; this will allow your auto-focus lens to properly

focus (Figure 2).
2. Take the white balance measurement, per your camera instructions.

Successive photographs will be rendered with that white balance. Also, you

can follow your camera instructions for saving a custom white balance

measurement for re-use at a later time under the same lighting conditions.
Note: If you prefer using white, simply turn your QuikDisc over (Figure 3 and

Figure 4).

Obtaining an accurate exposure for SLR/DSLR cameras

Accurate exposure readings are often difficult using the cameras internal metering

system, but the QuikDisc makes consistent results a snap.
1. Place the QuikDisc close to the subject so you can take a direct meter

reading from its surface (as shown in the Figure 2).
2. Select a center weighted or spot-metering mode on the camera filling the

frame with the QuikDisc. Manual mode is recommended for adjusting your

aperture and/or shutter speed to gain the correct exposure off the QuikDisc.
* The above steps involving your still camera functions may differ slightly

for different models; it's important to consult your user manual for correct

procedures.
