INTRODUCTION

The GNB SPP “SCR POW’R PAK” series chargers
are designed to make battery charging an easy,
economical and precise operation. Chargers are
made for single phase, 120 Volt, 60 Hertz or 240
Volt, 50 Hertz operation. Here are the GNB
advanced design features in the new SPP chargers:

Recharge is fully automatic. A solid state control
card provides an inteligent charge algorithm to fully
charge the battery. The algorithm is based on a IIEI
profile of four stages.

The first stage of the profile is a diagnose profile in
order to test if the battery needs a recharge. If the
charger decides the battery needs a recharge the
charger moves into the Main charge. Upon reaching
the gassing voltage of typical 2.37V per cell, the
charger moves into a constant voltage stage at the
gassing voltage until the charge current drops below
a predefined level (Finish rate current.
If this current is detected the charger moves into a
constant current finish rate stage with a low current
until the control detects a low voltage rise over time.
If this is detected the charger will terminate the
charge.
A push button on the front allows the user to select
an Equalize charge. This equalize is started at the
end of a complete charge profile. If Equalize is
selected in the Diagnose mode, the charger moves
directly into the Main charge stage
All stages are time controlled. An overall security
timer protects the battery from over charge.

The charger is equipped with a safety interlock which
enables the charger when the battery is
disconnected from the charger.

INSTALLATION

The SPP charger is mounted in the pocket provided
at the side of the battery tray. It should be inserted
such that the front vent holes at the top face the
outside of the battery tray.

WARNING: THE CHARGER SHOULD EASILY FIT
IN THE POCKET PROVIDED IN THE BATTERY
TRAY. IF IT DOES NOT, DO NOT FORCE THE
CHARGER AS DAMAGE TO THE CHARGER
MIGHT RESULT.

3.

AC SUPPLY

This charger must be electrically grounded to reduce
the risk of electric shock. The charger is equipped
with an AC supply cord having an equipment
grounding conductor and a grounding type plug and
is designed for either 120 Volt, 60 Hertz or 240 Volt,
50 Hertz operation. This plug must be connected to
an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and
grounded in accordance with the National Electric
Code (USA) or the Canadian Electrical Code
(Canada) and all local codes and ordinances.

WARNING: IMPROPER CONNECTION OF THE
GROUNDING CONDUCTOR CAN RESULT IN AN
ELECTRIC SHOCK. DO NOT REMOVE THE
GROUNDING PIN FROM THE AC PLUG.

Specifications for AC supply power are:

Voltage:

120 or 240 Volts (tolerance ±5%) 1Ph

Frequency: 60 or 50 Hertz (tolerance ±5%) 1Ph

The use of an extension cord with the charger is not
recommended. If an extension cord must be used,
keep the length to a minimum and use an extension
cord suitable for the current and use. Make sure that
the pins of the plug on the extension cord are the
same number, size and shape as that of the plug on
the battery charger.
