If a spring scale is unavailable, tie the line to a secure point. With the rod tip up (about a 45
degree vertical angle), apply pressure by turning the handle. Gradually tighten the drag star.
When the line reaches its breaking point, loosen the adjustment star ¼ turn.

When not in use, be sure to rotate the drag start to reduce drag pressure. This step will help
prevent damage to the drag washers during storage.

F. REMOVING THE SIDEPLATE

Ambassadeur reels are equipped with a removable handle sideplate that allows access to the
spool and centrifugal brake system. Use a phillips head screwdriver to loosen and disconnect the
3 sideplate screws. Gently pull on the handle sideplate until it separates from the frame of the
reel. The spool and centrifugal brake can now be accessed.

G. REEL FUNCTION

How to Adjust the Centrifugal Brake System: Record, CS Pro Rocket Black Edition,
Linecounter, C4 and C3 reels all feature a 6 pin centrifugal brake that maintains consistent brake
pressure throughout the cast when engaged. After removing the handle sideplate, look for the
centrifugal brake located on the spool facing the handle sideplate. To disengage the centrifugal
brake system, push each brake block towards the center of the spool until it “clicks” into place.
Any combination of brake blocks can be engaged or disengaged. To engage (turn on), slide the
preferred number of brake blocks away from the center of the spool. Each block will click into
position. Once activated, the brake blocks will be able to freely move up and down the pins,
thereby applying brake pressure.

For maximum casting distance and minimal tendency of line over run, it is necessary to also
adjust the tension knob to match the weight of the lure and angler preference.

How to Adjust the Tension Knob: With the rod-reel-line-lure properly assembled, place the tip
of the thumb on the line to hold the spool. Depending on model, depress the thumb bar or push
button with the pad of your thumb to disengage the gears. Allow the lure to drop to the ground.
If the lure does not fall when the thumb bar is depressed, turn the mechanical brake knob (see
picture) counterclockwise to reduce tension on the spool. If the lure falls to the ground and the
spool continues to rotate, the mechanical brake is too loose. Adjust accordingly.

- Basic Casting Technique -

a) Depress the thumb bar (or button, if applicable) while keeping the tip of the thumb on the
spool to keep the spool from rotating.
