Abbreviation for megahertz.

microprocessor

The primary computational chip inside the system that controls the interpretation and execution of arithmetic and logic functions. Software written for one
microprocessor must usually be revised to run on another microprocessor. CPU is a synonym for microprocessor.

mm

Abbreviation for millimeter(s).

mouse

A pointing device that controls the movement of the cursor on a screen. Mouse-aware software allows you to activate commands by clicking a mouse button
while pointing at objects displayed on the screen.

MPEG

Acronym for Motion Picture Experts Group. MPEG is a digital video file format.

Abbreviation for millisecond(s).

MS-DOS

Abbreviation for Microsoft Disk Operating System.

NDIS

Abbreviation for Network Driver Interface Specification.

NIC

Acronym for network interface controller.

NLM

Abbreviation for NetWare® Loadable Module.

NMI

Abbreviation for nonvolatile random-access memory. Memory that does not lose its contents when you turn off your system. NVRAM is used for maintaining the
date, time, and system configuration information.

OTP

Abbreviation for one-time programmable.

partition

You can divide a hard drive into multiple physical sections called partitions with the fdisk command. Each partition can contain multiple logical drives.

After partitioning the hard drive, you must format each logical drive with the format command.

PCI

Abbreviation for Peripheral Component Interconnect. A standard for local-bus implementation developed by Intel Corporation.
