Accessing the FC SAN Module

The FC SAN Module is managed as a single element. It has a single IP address and appears as a
separate entity to the Telnet protocol and the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

When SNMP devices send SNMP messages to a management console running SAN management
software, the information is stored in a Management Information Base (MIB). The FC SAN Module
Fabric OS 4.4.1 supports the FibreAlliance Fibre Channel Management (FCMGMT) MIBs, allowing
the provision of needed information to a SAN administrator.

Secure Telnet access is available using Secure Shell (SSH), a network security protocol for secure
remote login and other secure network services over an insecure network.

Interpreting POST results

The power-on self test (POST) system check is performed each time the FC SAN Module is powered
on, rebooted, or reset.

During POST, the LEDs are activated in various indicator patterns.

Perform the following steps to determine POST completion status.

1. Verify that the LEDs on the FC SAN Module indicate a healthy FC SAN Module. LED patterns are

described in

“Interpreting LED activity”

on page 23.

If one or more LEDs do not display a healthy state, verify that the LEDs are not set to beacon.
Use the FC SAN Module CLI switchShow command or Web Tools to verify the LED state. For
information about how to turn beaconing on and off, see the Dell 8/4Gbps FC SAN Module
Administrator's Guide
.

2. Use the Blade Enclosure’s Chassis Management Controller (CMC) GUI to verify that the FC SAN

Module is working correctly.

For details, refer to the Hardware Owner’s Manual for the PowerEdge Blade Enclosure.
