Cleaning Your Computer

Dell Precision™ M60 Series Mobile Workstation User's Guide

Shut down the computer through the Start menu.

Ensure that your computer and attached devices are turned off. If your computer and attached devices did not automatically turn off when you shut

down your computer, turn them off now.

3.

 

Remove any installed batteries

and disconnect the AC adapter.

 

4.

 

Disconnect any telephone or telecommunication lines from the computer.

5.

 

Disconnect your computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets, and then press the power button to ground the system board.

6.

 

xxRemove the computer stand, if it is attached.

 

7.

 

xxOpen the computer cover.

 

Computer, Keyboard, and DisplayMonitor

Gently use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove dust from the slots and holes on your computer and between the keys on the

keyboard.

Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with water or an LCD cleaner, and wipe the display until it is clean.

Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with water or an LCD cleaner, and wipe the computer and keyboard. Do not allow water from the cloth to seep between

the touch pad and the surrounding palm rest.

To clean your monitor screen, lightly dampen a soft, clean cloth with water. If possible, use a special screen-cleaning tissue or solution suitable for the

monitor's antistatic coating.

Wipe the keyboard, computer, and plastic part of the monitor with a soft cleaning cloth moistened with a solution of three parts water and one part

liquid dishwashing detergent. Wipe off stubborn stains with a cloth lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol.

 

Do not soak the cloth in the solution or let the solution drip inside your computer or keyboard.

Touch Pad

Shut down and turn off your computer, disconnect any attached devices, and disconnect them from their electrical outlets.

Remove any installed batteries

and disconnect the AC adapter.

3.

 

Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with water, and stroke it gently across the surface of the touch pad. Do not allow water from the cloth to seep between

the touch pad and the surrounding palm rest.

Optical Media

CDs and DVDs

 

 

If you notice problems, such as skipping, with the playback quality of your CDs or DVDs, try cleaning the discs.

Hold the disc by its outer edge. You can also touch the inside edge of the center hole.

 

NOTICE:

To disconnect a network cable, first unplug the cable from your computer and then unplug it from the network wall jack.

CAUTION:

To guard against electrical shock, always unplug your computer from the electrical outlet before opening the cover.

NOTICE:

Before touching anything inside your computer, ground yourself by touching an unpainted metal surface, such as the metal at the back of the

computer. While you work, periodically touch an unpainted metal surface to dissipate any static electricity that could harm internal components.

NOTICE:

To avoid damaging the computer or display, do not spray cleaning solution directly onto the display. Only use products specifically designed for

cleaning LCDs, and follow the instructions that are included with the product.

NOTICE:

Do not wipe the monitor screen with any soap or alcohol solution. Doing so may damage the antiglare coating.

NOTICE:

Always use compressed air to clean the lens in the drive, and follow the instructions that are included with the compressed air. Never touch

the lens in the drive.

NOTICE:

To prevent damaging the surface, do not wipe in a circular motion around the disc.
