TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

PROBLEM

Loss of power

• Build-up of grass, leaves

and trash under mower.

• Dirty air filter.
• Low oil level/dirty oil.
• Faulty spark plug.

• Dirty fuel filter.
• Stale or dirty fuel.

• Water in fuel.

• Spark plug wire loose.

• Dirty engine air screen/fins.

• Dirty/clogged muffler.
• Loose or damaged wiring.
• Carburetor out of

adjustment.

• Engine valves out of

adjustment.

• Clean underside of mower

housing.

• Clean/replace air filter.
• Check oil levei/change oil.

• Clean and regap or change

spark plug.

• Replace fuel filter.
• Drain fuel tank and refill with

fresh gasoline.

• Drain fuel tank and carbure­

tor, refill tank with fresh
gasoline and replace fuel
filter.

• Connect and tighten spark

plug wire.

• Clean engine air screen/

fins.

• Cleari/replace muffler.

• Check all wiring.
• See “To Adjust Carburetor”

in Service Adjustments
section.

• Contact an authorized

service center/department.

Excessive

• Worn, bent or loose blade.

• Bent blade mandrel.
• Loose/damaged part(s).

' Replace blade.

Tighten blade bolt.

• Clogged mower deck vent

from build-up of grass,

leaves, and trash around
mandrels.

• Replace blade. Tighten

biade bolt.

• Level mower deck.
• Clean underside of mower

housing.

• Replace blade mandrel.
• Clean around mandrels to

open vent holes.

Mower blades will
not rotate

• Obstruction in clutch

mechanism.

• Worn/damaged mower

drive belt.

• Frozen idler puiley.

• Frozen blade mandrel.

Remove obstruction.

Replace mower drive belt.

Replace idler puliey.
Replace blade mandrel.
