Part Number: 10.715.014K; 10.715.015K
Description:

Short Shift Kit for 2000 on A4 Chassis VWs.

Notes:

This shift lever simply replaces the original stock lever in the original position to provide

a 20% throw reduction at the gearshift lever. This lever will only work on cars using the later
style shift mechanisms, that feature the operating lever and shiftweight in one-piece. Note that
although factory parts information states this shifter style began being used in A4 cars as early
as the 1999½ (5/99 prod) model year, very few of them actually were installed until the 2000 model
year. Therefore, If you have a late 1999 model, the best way to determine what shifter you have is
to visually inspect the car, rather than rely on the factory parts info.

Procedure:

1) For the clearest access to the shift lever, you may wish to remove the battery and/or the airbox

before proceeding, although it can be done without removing either.

2) Place the shifter in neutral position.
3) Remove the both the gear-change cable and the gate-selector cable from the gear selector lever.

On 2000-2001 cars, this is done by gently prying it off the ball, using a 13mm open-end wrench
under the cable end as shown below. On 2002 and later cars, this is done by removing the circlip
that retains the cable on the pivot pin, then simply lifting the cable off the pin (not shown).

4) Using a 13mm socket wrench, remove the retaining nut that holds the selector lever to the trans-

mission.

5) Remove the selector lever from the transmission by pulling upwards. Penetrating oil may be used

for stubborn or corroded connections. Note how the plastic insert on the relay lever (A) engages
the selector lever's guide rails. Be careful not to damage this insert when removing the lever.

6) Align the splines on the new short-throw selector lever with the selector shaft on the transmission,

noting that it will only install in one position on the splined shaft. Make sure that the plastic insert
on the relay lever properly engages the guide rails on the short shift lever. Press the short shift
lever onto the shaft.

7) Tighten the retaining nut to 25Nm (18ftlb).
8) Reinstall the cable ends onto each lever's ball.
