How to use the oven

1. Set up the oven as described above. Open the oven door, place your chosen food on the appropriate tray, then

close the oven door.
Note:
• You should only place food directly on the grilling rack if you’re sure that no crumbs, fat or moisture will fall

from the food. Any fat or crumbs that drop onto the lower heating element may catch fire; any moisture that
drips from the food may cause the quartz tube to break.

• Food that has a low moisture or fat content – or food that crumbles easily – should be cooked on the flat

oven tray. Food that may produce fat or moisture during cooking (e.g. certain meats) should be placed in the
tray with raised sides. Place your chosen tray on the grilling rack before use. If you’re preparing a meal that
produces any liquid during cooking, please be careful not to scald yourself when removing the tray from the
oven. We recommend that you prick sausages in several places with a fork before cooking them; this will
help to reduce moisture and fat from splashing inside the oven.

2. Make sure that the heating element selection switch (part no. 3) and timer switch (part no. 2) are both

switched off. This is the OFF position. Now plug the mains cable into the wall socket and switch the socket on.

3. To start cooking, turn the heating element selection switch (part no. 3) from the ‘OFF’ position to the heat

setting you require. You can select the lower element, upper element or both together. Turn the timer switch
clockwise and set the required duration for cooking the meal. The oven will now switch on and the power
indicator light (part no. 4) will glow red.
Note:
• The heating element selection switch (part no. 3) has four positions:
- [OFF]: heating is switched off. Neither of the heating elements will operate, although the power light will

show if the timer is on;

-

: only the upper heating element operates. Suitable for grilling pizza, toast and other sliced food;

-

: both heating elements operate. We recommend that all cooking is started with the switch in this

position for a few minutes;

-

: only the lower heating element operates. Suitable for cooking filled rolls, French bread and other larger

items.

• We recommend that you start all cooking by turning the heating element switch to the

position. After a

few minutes of cooking, turn the heating element switch to activate just the lower or upper heating
element, depending on the food type.

• The oven must remain switched off and unplugged when you are placing food inside. Only reconnect it to

the mains when all the ingredients have been placed in the oven. Make sure there is a safe distance
between the upper heating element and the contents of the oven. Do not allow any food to touch the
heating elements.

• Look through the glass door regularly to check the contents of the oven during cooking. This will reduce the

risk of burning or overcooking your meal.

• If you need to turn your food over during cooking, always switch the mains power off before opening the

oven door. Never turn the food inside the oven; always remove it on the tray and then turn it.

4. The maximum continuous cooking period that can be set using the timer switch is 15 minutes. Exact cooking

times for food will vary according to portion size and can be established from practical experience. The
following timings may help you cook various meals:
fish: 8-10 minutes
poultry: 20 minutes
pizza with topping: 6-8 minutes
thin steak: 10-12 minutes
When the duration set by the timer has expired, the appliance will ring and the red power indicator will then
go out. To stop the cooking process before the timer has switched off, simply turn the timer switch anti-
clockwise to the OFF position.

5. When your meal has cooked, turn off the heating elements by turning the heating element selection switch

to ‘OFF’. Now turn the timer switch to OFF and unplug the mains cable from the wall socket. Only remove the
food when power has been disconnected. The grilling rack can be slid forward when the oven door is open;
this will help you remove your food. If you have cooked any food directly on the grilling rack, you can remove
it with a flat wooden slice. Do not use tools made from plastic or other non heat-resistant materials.

Important warnings and notes for using this appliance:

You may notice a small amount of smoke when you first use the oven. We recommend that you don’t cook any
food when you first use the oven; any smoke should disappear after a short time. Clean the oven regularly to
prevent any crumbs or other combustible material from accumulating inside.

The timer may continue to tick for a few moments after the oven switches off at the end of the chosen
duration. This is not a fault.

Never toast any bread or other bakery products for more than 6 minutes as this is likely to burn them and
could cause a fire.

Always switch the oven off and unplug it from the mains socket before placing any food or trays in the oven
and before removing anything from the oven.

Always turn the oven off by using the timer switch and the heating element control switch before unplugging
it from the mains.

Only put food and an appropriate tray in the oven. Do not use any other material (e.g. aluminium foil, baking
paper, etc.)
