modem from voltage spikes and

surges.

Protect Your Modem!

Recently many businesses and

hotels began using digital phone

systems in place of analog phone

systems. These digital systems

provide high-current phone lines

that can damage most computer

modems. Since both safe analog

lines and dangerous digital lines

use the same type of connectors,

it is impossible to visually

determine if a phone line is safe.

Use Voltage Valet’s Digital Phone

Line Tester before you plug in to

detect

high-current

digital

telephone lines that can damage

your computer modem.

Instructions

IMPORTANT: Always test the phone line before connecting your computer

modem.

Step 1. Test line 1 by setting the Line Switch to position “1”. Position “1” on

Line Switch tests the inside wire pair. Position “2” on Line Switch tests the

outside wire pair.

Step 2. Connect the RJ11 plug at the LINE end of “Digital Phone Line Tester” to

the RJ11 phone line jack you want to test. NOTE: Outside North America you

may need an International Telephone Outlet Adaptor to convert a foreign

telephone jack to an RJ11 jack. See country list in Voltage Valet’s Foreign

Electricity Guide for proper adaptor.

Step 3. Press the “TEST” button.

RED light indicates a digital line. DO NOT USE LINE.

GREEN light indicates a safe analog line.

YELLOW light indicates a safe analog line with reversed polarity. Phone line

is safe but reversed polarity may slow data transmission rates.

NO LIGHT indicates no signal present on the phone line. Set line switch to

position “2” and repeat steps above.

Step 4. To use the surge suppression circuit, leave the “Digital Phone Line

Tester” plugged into the phone line jack as described in Step 2 and connect the

RJ11 plug from the computer modem to the RJ11 jack at the MODEM end of

“Digital Phone Line Tester.”
