Surface Mounting the SA-1 with the K-SM:

1. Locate and mount the K-SM Surface Mount Accessory as desired.

2. Detach the power supply cable from the SA-1 in order to fully detach the unit from the back box.

The output wires will remain attached to the unit at all times.

3. Attach SA-1 back box to K-SM.

4. Feed wires through back-box and reattach the power supply cable to the unit. Put unit back in

back-box and strain relief as before.

5. If using a 100-Series Emergency phone, connect the Brown and Black auxiliary input wires from

the Emergency Phone to the Red and Black wires of the SA-1. Connect Black to Black and Red
to Brown. On a 400-Series Phone the auxiliary input wires are Brown and Blue. Connect Black
to Blue and Red to Brown. NOTE: The other wires on the Emergency Phone are for auxiliary
outputs and should not be connected to the SA-1.

6. Reattach the back-box and faceplate.

ADJUSTING SENSITIVITY

The Sensitivity Range Switch (three pin jumper on board) sets the sensitivity of the unit. It should be set to hear
screams, but not normal sounds. Try at factory default before making any changes. As shipped from the factory
the two inner pins are jumped, for normal or medium sensitivity. To reduce sensitivity, remove the jumper
completely. To maximize sensitivity, place the jumper over the two outer pins.

OPERATION

When the unit is activated the red LED on board will light to indicate that the unit has provided the momentary
contact closure for the auxiliary input of the Emergency Phone. When the closure time has elapsed (several
seconds), the red LED will go out, but the Hands-Free Emergency Phone will not disconnect. NOTE: It is not
recommended that the trimmer settings, be adjusted in the field. If you wish to change any of these settings
please contact Talk-A-Phone Technical Support first.
