If you do not have access to the attc from underneath:
Peel back the shngles from the edge of the roof to determne where the roof deckng sheets
are joned. Make a chalk lne perpendcular to the roof slope that goes through that pont.
Now that you have identified a single rafter you should snap chalk lines parallel to your
perpendcular lne (spaced to concde wth the rafters underneath) untl you have all of the
rafters marked underneath the area where you wll be placng the collectors.
Usng your mountng feet placed over the ntersecton of your chalk lnes, mark where you wll
drll your holes. Drll a ¼” 2” deep where you have for each of the mountng feet. Note:
You want to maximize the space that you have between your feet on the upper and lower
edge of the collector. Dependng on your rafter spacng you wll be placng the mountng feet
ether 32” apart under the collector or 24” apart under the collector. Between the collectors
use a sngle rafter as the spacng between mountng feet.
Once you have drilled for you mounting feet, inject roofing tar into each one of the drilled
holes.
Using the mounting foot and 3/8-16 x 2.5” stainless steel lag screws, stainless steel flat
washers, and stanless steel lock washers, place the foot over the pre-drlled holes.
Inject roofing tar underneath the flat washers and screw the foot assembly through the
roofing material to the rafter. You should see roofing tar ooze out from underneath the
mountng foot. Repeat ths process for all of the mountng feet.
Placing the collectors:
Pror to brngng the collectors to the roof you should sweat the followng tems on the collectors whle
they are stll on the ground:
For a right to left flow (reverse for left to right):
• 2 – 1” couplings or unions to the side(s) between the collectors
• 1 – 1” pipe cap on the upper right header pipe of the collector
to be mounted on the right
• 1 – 1” pipe cap on the lower left header pipe of the collector to
be mounted on the left
• 1”- ¾” elbow (elbow pointed straight down) lower right header
• 1”- ¾” elbow (elbow pointed straight down) on the upper left
header
Wth the mountng feet n place, place the collectors over the mountng feet securng the bottom of the
collectors wth the mountng feet. Slde the collectors together so the unons are touchng. Wth the
1”x3/4” elbows, mark where the piping should penetrate the roof. Move the collectors and drill the roof
penetratons for both the ncomng and outgong copper ppe.
