Step 1: (Carefully read all instructions
before installation)
To remove the OEM
exhaust system, you will need to cut the tailpipe
somewhere near the bend where the pipe goes over
the half-shaft. The OEM system can be removed in
one piece by removing the sway-bar, but you will
need to refer to a Ford shop manual for the proper
torque specifications to re-install the sway-bar. Unbolt
the muffler from the catalytic converter extension pipe
at the 2-bolt flange, and disengage the welded
hangers from the OEM rubber insulators. Do not
damage the OEM rubber insulators, or discard the
OEM fasteners, as they will be re-used to mount the
new system.
Step 2:
Begin installation of the Magnaflow system
by bolting the new Muffler Assembly to the catalytic
converter extension pipe re-using the OEM fasteners.
Leave all fasteners loose for final adjustment of the
complete system. The muffler is designed to sit at a
slight angle when in position, not flat or parallel to the
ground and the rear hanger is not used in this
application. Install the Extension Pipe Assembly by
fitting the welded hangers into the OEM rubber
insulators, and by fastening it to the muffler using one
of the supplied 3.00" clamps. Install the Mid-Pipe and
Tailpipe assemblies in a similar fashion.
Step 3:
With all components mounted loosely,
adjust the system for overall aesthetics and clearance
of frame & bodywork. (MAGNAFLOW recommends
at least 1/2" of clearance between the exhaust
system and any body panels to prevent heat-related
body damage or fire.)
Step 4:
Once a final position has been chosen for
the new system, evenly tighten all fasteners from
front to rear. The supplied band clamps must be
VERY tight to properly align the pipes and prevent
leaks (Approximately 40ft-lbs). Inspect all fasteners
after 25-50 miles of operation and retighten if
necessary.
