Modulation

BigSeq2’s power lies in its modulation features—that is, the manner in which its Modulation Sequencers can
control (modulate) the parameters of the effects blocks. We’ve described how each effects block has a pair of
sequencers, and what parameters each effects block has; now we’ll describe how they work together. We’ll
use the following screenshot as an example.

First notice that the
sequencer step size is set
to 1/16 and the number
of steps is 32. Assuming
that the host sequencer’s
time signature is set to
4/4, this means that the
step sequencer will
advance one step with
each sixteenth note, and
it will take two measures
for the sequencer to cycle
through all of its steps.

We’ve selected the
frequency shifter effects
block, as shown by the
illuminated FREQ box at
the bottom. The effect
panel shows the
frequency shifter’s
controls. Notice the
horizontal sliders beneath
each knob. These are the
modulation depth sliders that we mentioned earlier. The sliders are bidirectional; if left at their center setting,

the parameter is unaffected by the Modulation Sequencer. In the illustration above, the SHIFT and MIX
parameters’ modulation sliders are set to zero. Click and drag on the sliders to move them to the left or right.
Hold down the CTRL key on your PC’s keyboard, or the CMD key on a Macintosh keyboard, and click on a
slider to reset it to the center-zero position.
