WARNING

When using supplementary beam axes, install them as described above so that
equipment operators cannot stand between the machine and the SL-CHG Series
or gain access to the machine's hazardous zone by bypassing the SL-CHG Series'
protective range. Failure to heed this warning may result in significant danger,
including serious injury or death of the machine operator.

The transmitter/receiver pair installed to directly protect the length (zone) achieved by adding the
press machinery's stroke length and the amount the slide can be adjusted is called the “primary beam
axis”, while transmitters and receivers installed for other purposes are called the “supplementary beam
axes”. When selecting the SL-CHG Series that will be installed as the primary beam axis, it is neces-
sary to select an SL-CHG Series that offers a protection height that is longer than the length given by
adding the press machinery's stroke length with the amount the slide can be adjusted. Further, when
the distance between the beam axis center of the primary beam axis and the forward edge of the
bolster is 400 mm (15.75") or greater, a supplementary beam axis must be installed every 200 mm
(7.87") between the primary beam axis and the bolster as indicated in the diagram above to prevent
penetration by machinery operators.

2-2-2 Structural Standards for Safety Devices for Press Machinery and Shearing Machines

1. Installation when the product is used as a safety device for shearing machines

When the SL-CHG Series is used as a safety device for shearing machines, be sure to comply with
the following instructions conforming to the Structural Standards for safety Devices for Press
Machinery and Shearing Machines (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Notification No. 102 issued
on September 21, 1978).

* If the safety distance exceeds 270 mm, be sure to install the supplementary beam axis between

the primary beam axis and the blade. This safety distance means the horizontal distance
between the vertical plane including the beam axis of the SL-CHG Series and the danger limit
(source of hazard).

* The height of the beam axis above the table of the shearing machine must be at most 0.67

times the safety distance but no more than 180 mm.
