The AF frame indicates the area of the composition on which the
camera

focuses. You can set the AF frame in the following ways.

Selecting an AF Frame

Shooting Mode

Face Detect

You can have the camera automatically
detect the position of a face and use this
data to set the focus and exposure*
while shooting. In addition, the camera
will meter the subject so that the face is
correctly illuminated when the flash fires.
If a face is not detected, images will be
shot using the [On] option.

On

The camera automatically selects
between 9 AF frames to focus on
according to the shooting conditions.

Off

The camera focuses using the center AF
frame. This is convenient for ensuring
that your intended subject is in focus and
for composing images.
