Unpacking & Handling

Use care when unpacking an Intellisys Throttling Butterfly Valve. Aluminum surfaces can scratch easily and
Stainless Steel components are heavy. A static-safe, particle-free work surface is recommended. There is no
need to remove parts during installation or inspection.

Connections & Interfaces

Refer to the diagrams on the back of this sheet for Throttling Butterfly Valve connections.

Pre-Installation Functionality Check

WARNING: The valve plate movement presents a severe
pinching/crushing hazard. Please keep fingers, hands and other
objects away from the valve opening and associated moving parts.

Connect Power and Valve Cables
Connect the APC controller to the valve motor with a Nor-Cal TBV-CRD series cable. (NOTE: IQ-series valves
do not require a valve cable connection, as the motor is integrated into the controller.) Connect the controller to
an appropriate power source. Toggle the power switch (if applicable) or apply DC power from your source.

Initialize the Valve
From the tool software, send the appropriate initialization command to begin initialization. During Initialization,
the valve will complete a 15-second initialization sequence during which the valve plate will cycle back-and-forth
several times. The valve will eventually stop in the open position, unless specified otherwise by the firmware.

Open/Close Testing
Verification of the system communications can be done by toggling the “OPEN / CLOSE” switch (if available) on
the controller front panel, or sending the appropriate command from the tool software. If the valve does not
operate as described, please contact Nor-Cal technical support.
