If it becomes necessary to return a Parr 1271
Calorimeter to the factory, the A750DD2
mechanical unit (the tower) must be packed
carefully to prevent shipping damage. For
best protection, Parr will furnish a heavy-duty
shipping carton and a set of foamed plastic
“traps” (spacers) which will align and hold the
tower firmly in place within the carton. Using
these supplies, the shipper should pack the
unit as described below.

1.

While the calorimeter is still under
power, go into “Program Diagnostics”,
Menu 9.7, and select “Head Up”. This
will raise the bomb head up into the
tower.

2.

Shut off the power to the tower and to
the controller and disconnect the
power cords. Shut off the oxygen and
nitrogen tanks and vent the rinse tank.
Disconnect the gas lines from the back
of the tower.

3.

Shut off the water handling system and
prepare to drain the tower. The unit
will drain freely when the water lines
are removed. To control the drainage,
disconnect the water lines from the
water handling system and place them
in a bucket at a lower level until all the
water has drained from the tower; then
disconnect the lines from the back of
the unit.

4.

Swing the plate at the back of the
workspace upward and hold it up while
sliding the foamed plastic trap into the
space underneath the plate.
