Hold Feature

A displayed measurement may be retained on the display regardless of movement of the gage

slide and without loss of the original zero position. This feature allows retention of the reading

when the display is not positioned for easy reading.

Over Speed Indicator

The word “ERR04” is displayed when the gage slide is moved at excessive speed. This feature

will cancel the display rather than show an incorrect reading.

Automatic Off

The gage will turn off (the display will go blank) after 30 minutes of no slide movement or pressing

of a button. Any movement of the slide will activate the display with no loss of position reading.

Hardened Base

The No.3752 Series of height gages feature well-balanced, hardened, ground and lapped bases

with convenient finger grooves as furnished on other Starrett quality height gages.

USE INSTRUCTIONS

Getting Started

Clean the bottom of the height gage and the surface plate or reference surface being used. Move

the gage slide to activate the measuring mode on the height gage. The display should show the

gage slide position and is now ready to measure movement of the slide.

To Establish a Zero Reference Using an Indicator

An indicator should be mounted on the proper attachment of the height gage to use as a position-

ing device. A test indicator can be used if the part configuration will allow.

The reference zero position can be the surface plate itself, a gage block or a reference surface on

the product part. Loosen the lock on the gage slide and carrier, then move the slide to a position

where the indicator contact is slightly above the zero reference surface but not touching it. Using

the fine adjustment knob, move the slide until a zero reading shows on the indicator.

NOTE:

If using a dial indicator, be sure to count revolutions of the indicator hand. If using a digital

indicator depress the ZERO button to change the display to a zero position “0.0000”(0.00mm).

Measurement of a Height

Loosen the lock on the gage slide and carrier, then move the slide to a position slightly above the

surface to be measured. Move the gage into position so that the indicator contact is directly over

the surface to be measured and using the fine adjustment mechanism, move the slide until the

indicator reads zero. The display will show the exact dimension of the surface or feature being

measured with reference to the zero position.

Using a Scriber

The special scriber furnished with the height gage can be mounted using the scriber clamp

to allow the scriber to contact the surface plate if required for zero reference. Operation

of the height gage is the same as noted above in “Zero Reference Using an Indicator” and

“Measurement of a Height”.

NOTE:

Use of the scriber to contact work surfaces depends on the ability of the operator to “feel”

the contact surface without exerting excess pressure on the surface with the scriber.
