SCSI Ultra320 Cable Kits
NOTES: For SCSI Ultra320 operation, the StorCase ® Ultra320 cable kits require
Ultra320 drives, Ultra320 HBA, and Ultra320-compliant cabling (internal
and external).
For daisy-chained SCSI Ultra320 removable drive applications,
StorCase Ultra320 Data Express removable drive enclosures must also
be used in conjunction with the Ultra320 cable kits.
Ultra320 9-Drive Cable Kit
The SCSI Wide Ultra320 Low Voltage Differential (LVD) protocol supports a maximum
320MB/sec transfer rate for applications with up to 15 LVD devices, providing that the
total (internal plus external) device-to-host cable length does not exceed 12 meters (approx.
39 feet). The StorCase Technology Ultra320 9-Drive Cable Kit (P/N S90A114), designed to fit
the rear panel of the Data Silo ® DS400 or DS500 9-bay tower or rack mount chassis, simplifies
and reduces this Ultra320 cable length limitation.
With the S90A114 installed within up to two DS400 or DS500 9-bay chassis, any combina-
tion of up to 15 SCSI Wide Ultra320 devices can be supported on a single Ultra320 channel,
allowing a total maximum external cable length of 12 meters. Without an S90A114 installed
in each chassis however, the chassis-internal cable lengths between devices must also
be taken into consideration, thus reducing the maximum allowable external cable length
available.
The S90A114 includes a SCSI Ultra320 repeater board with internal and external SCSI
connectors, an internal power splitting cable, and a 9-drive internal Ultra320 ribbon cable with
a crimped-on Ultra320 multi-mode (LVD/Single-Ended) terminator (Figure 1).
Ultra320 5-Drive Cable Kit
The Ultra320 5-Drive Cable Kit (P/N S90A113) is also designed to fit the rear panel of the
DS400 or DS500 chassis. Two (2) S90A113 cable kits installed within a single DS400 or DS500
allow for dual-channel configurations.
With the S90A113 kit installed within up to three DS400 or DS500 9-bay chassis, any
combination of up to 15 SCSI Wide Ultra320 devices can be supported on each Ultra320
channel.
The S90A113 includes a SCSI Ultra320 repeater board with internal and external SCSI con-
nectors, an internal power splitting cable, and a 5-drive internal Ultra320 ribbon cable with
a crimped-on Ultra320 multi-mode (LVD/Single-Ended) terminator(Figure 2).
