19" SELVEDGE EDGE

ROLL ROOFING

This product is NOT to be used on slopes

less than 1 in. per horizontal foot.

ROOF DECK – Roof deck must be smooth, dry

and free from warped surfaces. It is recommended

that metal drip edges be installed at eaves and

rakes.

UNROLL BEFORE APPLYING – Roofing should

be unrolled and allowed to lie flat in warm sunlight

for some time in advance of application. This

allows the material to relax, thereby minimizing

the possibility of buckles and surface unevenness.

THE SHEET SHOULD BE CUT IN 12 ft. to 18 ft.

LENGTHS.

TEMPERATURE – Roofing must not be applied

when air temperature is below 50°F unless

proper precautions have been taken to allow for

application of the material.

ADHESIVE – Use lap cement meeting ASTM D

3019.

APPLICATION – Sheets are to be applied

horizontally from the eave to the ridge.

Begin by applying starter strips to the eave.

Remove the 17 in. granule-surface portion from a

sheet of selvedge roll roofing. Place the remaining

19 in. portion parallel to eave so that it overhangs

the drip edge 1/4 in. to 3/8 in. at both the eaves

and rakes. Fasten it to deck with 2 rows of nails

in the selvedge portion. Locate the first row 5

in. in from the side edge and the second row 9

in. in from the first with the nails spaced 12 in.

on center, slightly staggering them in each row.

Cover the entire starter strip with a thin layer of

cold application cement. Place full width sheet

over it, fastening with 2 rows of nails in selvedge

portion as shown in diagram below. Continue each

succeeding course, in the same manner, varying

the 12 ft. to 18 ft. sheet lengths to ensure that top

laps do not fall next to each other.

WARNING

All cement is to be applied in thin, smooth, even

layers. Excessive use of cement will cause

blistering of this product. TAMKO Roofing

Products, Inc. will assume NO responsibility

for the blistering.

Additional illustrations and installation details are

available in the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers

Association Booklet, “Residential Asphalt Roofing

Manual”.

Position all laps so the upper sheet overlies the lower one,
thereby carrying drainage over the joint rather than into it.
Selvedge edge roll roofing may also be applied parallel to
the rakes.
