5. Remove and save the 4 screws securing the housing to the subset base.

6. Hinge the housing forward to access the interior of the telephone. Unplug the speaker harness

connector from the printed circuit board.

7. Pull the potentiometer out through the rear of the front panel. Be sure to save the internal-toothed

lockwasher on top of the potentiometer.

8. Locate the speaker. Using long-nose pliers, pinch together and remove the 4 clips securing the speaker

to the housing. Be very careful not to break the plastic posts in the center of these clips, because the
posts are part of the housing.

9. Carefully remove the speaker, and remove the 4 neoprene washers from the desktop housing.

10. Clip the tie wrap securing the wires of all the harness assemblies together to free the speaker volume

control harness assembly wires.

11. Discard the old harness assembly, including the 4 clips and 4 neoprene washers.

Installing the new assembly

1. Place 4 new neoprene washers over the 4 plastic posts of the housing at the grill area. Install the new

speaker where the old speaker was using the 4 speaker wires to the side towards the front panel. Using
long-nose pliers, secure the speaker with 4 new clips. The clips should be pressed firmly against the
speaker. Be careful not to break the plastic posts in the center of the clips.

2. Plug the connector onto the printed circuit board at the same place it was before.

3. Place the internal-toothed lockwasher on the potentiometer.

4. Feed the potentiometer through the front panel from the back.

5. Secure the potentiometer by tightening the collar nut on the front panel.

6. Place the volume control knob over the top of the volume control assembly.

7. Secure the knob by tightening the hex nut.

8. Snap the cap back into the knob.

9. Use the new tie wrap to secure the wires of all the harness assemblies together.

10. Secure the housing to the subset base by tightening the 4 screws.
