DETONATION ELIMINATION TECHNOLOGY (D.E.T.)

Your 2003 800 RMK Vertical Escape is equipped with a detonation sensor that monitors the engine and responds to deto-

nation by automatically reducing the engine timing. When activated, the “DETONATION FLASH” indicator (A) will

flash in the lower right-hand area of the tachometer. The activated sensor reduces engine detonation by retarding the igni-

tion timing. This results in decreased engine RPM and performance.

The detonation system is not always effective at sensing engine damaging detonation and protecting the engine under hot

ambient conditions or conditions where the CDI box temperature is elevated. Under these types

of conditions it is especially important to follow the jetting charts for temperature and altitude

that are recommended for your engine.

D.E.T. TROUBLESHOOTING

Use this chart to determine causes and solutions for detonation. If none of these

conditions exists and the sensor remains activated, see your Polaris dealer.

Possible Cause

Solution

Poor quality fuel

Replace with higher quality fuel

Improper jetting

Verify and adjust per jetting chart

Improper engine modifications

Do not modify the engine

D.E.T. FLASH SIGNALS

Use this chart to determine the meaning and course of action for each D.E.T. flash signal.

Type of Flash

Cause

Action

3 flashes of 1 second each

Detonation

See DET Troubleshooting Chart

Solid 3-second flash, off 1 second,

repeats until engine is shut down

Faulty sensor

See your Polaris dealer

Solid non-blinking light

High water temperature

See your Polaris dealer. NOTE: If temporary opera-

tion is unavoidable, drive slowly and stop the engine

frequently to allow the engine to cool.
