Recently we have had two winch post failures on the 8,300 lb. aluminum winch post system (also used on the 6,000 and 7,000 lb. models).

In both cases, the winch post has been adjusted to fit a bow eye that is positioned very high. This high position is the reason for these

failures and has resulted in us taking the following action:

1. We have added a positive stop to the winch tube angle weldment to limit the angle that the winch post tube weldment can be adjusted:

60°. This then limits the height that the bow eye roller can be adjusted. This may result in having to order the longer version of the

winch post tube weldment on future orders to reach the bow eye of the boats you are currently fitting with the shorter version.

2. The metal strap placed on the bottom side of the 3X3 tongue on the 6,000, 7,000, and 8,300 lb. models is also affected. This strap,

along with a u-bolt and hex nuts, attaches the winch post angle tube weldment to the tongue. This strap has been changed to a

heavier material, part number 6885900.

Below is a chart showing the maximum achievable height that both the short and long version of the winch post tube weldment can be

adjusted to with the new stop. This measurement is made from the top of the tongue to the center of the bow eye roller. Listed below the

drawing is the part number for the winch post tube weldment required to achieve the height shown.

Midwest requests that you recheck all trailers that are currently in the field in applications where the winch post system may be adjusted

above the maximum heights shown in the above diagrams. If you have applications as described above, we recommend that you replace

the current winch post tube weldment with the longer version immediately. We also recommend that you replace the metal strap for the

U-bolt discussed in Item 2 above. We feel that any adjustment above the specified height shown in the diagrams will place the winch post

in an unsafe position.

For further information regarding replacement winch post tube weldments or other questions regarding this issue, please contact Gary

Bolles at Midwest Industriesʼ warranty department, extension 230.
