Setup Guide — XTRA Series Audio Power Amplifiers

W

Installation and service must be performed by authorized personnel only. These

products must be used with UL approved, grounded, electrical boxes.

This guide provides startup instructions for an experienced installer to set up and operate the

XPA 1002 or XPA 2001 audio power amplifier. All references are to the XTRA Series user’s

manual.

Step 1

If the power amplifier is powered on, be sure that power to the amplifier is turned off first.

N

Adjust the audio level to - = (full attentuation) prior to the amplifier being powered back up in Step 5. See

"Rear Panel

Features and Operation" in chapter 3 of the user’s manual.

Turn off all other equipment and disconnect the power cords. Verify that the amplifier is disconnected from the power source

before proceeding.

Step 2

For diagrams of typical application examples, see "Application Examples" in chapter 2. For further mounting instructions, see
"Mounting the XPA 1002 and XPA 2001" in chapter 2 of the user’s manual.

Step 3

Wire input to the amplifier's input 3.5 mm connectors, as shown in the following illustration. See "Rear Panel Features and

Operation" in chapter 3 of the user’s manual.

N

The XPA 1002’s output power can be effectively doubled by using only one input channel and bridging the output. The

XPA 1002 outputs 200 watts @ 8 ohms or 120 watts @ 16 ohms in bridged mode. See “Bridged mode output” in chapter 3

of the user’s manual for wiring instructions when bridging the XPA 1002

Do not tin the wires!

For mono input on the XPA 2001, only the left channel needs to be wired; no jumpering to the right channel is needed.

Step 4

Wire speakers to the amplifier’s output connector using the included

4-pole (XPA 1002) or 2-pole (XPA 2001-70V and XPA 2001-100V) screw

lock plug as shown to the right. See “Rear Panel Features and Operation”

in chapter 3 of the user’s manual.

Step 5

Reconnect all power cords and switch on all other equipment before powering up the power amplifier. The amplifier must be

powered up last. The amplifier’s front panel power LED should light green.

Step 6

Adjust the audio level using the rear panel adjustment screws as shown to
the right. See “Rear Panel Features and Operation” in chapter 3.

Step 7

The limiter/protect and signal LEDs located on the front and rear panels should be checked if problems are encountered. See

“Front Panel Features and Operation” in chapter 3.

Step 8

The 3.5 mm 5-pin captive screw remote control connector (shown to the right) is used

to control volume and standby mode through contact closure. Standby mode

turns off all output, although the XPA is still receiving power. See

“Front Panel Features and Operation” in chapter 3.
