1. SAFETY

INSTRUCTIONS FOR:

TOWING SOCKET

ASSEMBLY N-TYPE 12V

WARNING! Ensure that Health and Safety, local authority and general workshop practice regulations are strictly

adhered to when using tools and equipment.

DO NOT use socket assembly if it, or any attachment, is damaged.

Maintain in a good, clean condition for best and safest performance.

Keep the work area clean, uncluttered and ensure there is adequate lighting.

Keep children and unauthorised persons away from the work area.

DO NOT use for any purpose other than for which it is designed.

WARNING! The warnings and instructions discussed in this manual cannot cover all possible conditions and

situations that may occur. It must be understood that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built

into this product, but must be applied by the operator.

Complete assembly includes 1.5mtr 7-core cable with pre-wired 12V 7-pin N-type socket. Metal plate with

pre-formed mounting points at 90mm centres.

2.1.

Position the mounting plate between the tow ball and the vehicle towing bracket.

2.2.

Locate a convenient connection point in the vehicle’s wiring harness near one of the rear light clusters.

2.3.

If there is no access for the cable available, drill a suitably sized hole in the bodywork near the tow ball. Remove

any sharp edges and fit a suitably sized grommet (or use sealant).

2.4.

Feed the 7 core cable through this hole and strip off the outer cover as necessary and connect the wires into the wiring

harnesss as required using the following codes.

2.5.

When completed, test all vehicle and trailer lamps for correct operation, before towing a trailer on the road.

WARNING: Number plate lamps on the trailer should be wired to avoid a common connnection between Pins 5 and 7 of the

12N Socket.

NOTE:

It is a legal requirement that a warning should be given if a bulb fails in the direction indicators on the trailer. It is

therefore recommended that a 7 way bypass relay is used where the direct connection of towing electrics may affect

bulb failure monitoring, multiplex wiring or other electronic systems

.
