How It Works

The Fresh Air System consists of two components: The
Healthy Home System Control (HHSC) and a Fresh Air
Damper (FAD or MAS). An intake air hood may also
be required and is included with the MAS. The HHSC
is connected directly to the HVAC system fan and
automatically engages the fan whenever additional fresh
air is needed based on a predetermined schedule.

When the central fan is engaged, the Fresh Air Damper
opens to allow fresh air to be pulled into the return air
plenum where it is mixed with conditioned air, filtered (if
a media air cleaner is installed), and distributed to the
rest of the home via the duct system. The FAD opens and
closes based on the scheduled program of the HHSC.
The MAS is pressure activated and opens automatically
whenever the fan is engaged and remains closed when
the fan is inactive.

Fresh Air. Who needs it

?

We do. Every home needs fresh air, too. Efforts to make
homes more energy efficient prevent fresh air from
entering the home and can lead to compromised air
quality and appliance inefficiency. Weather stripping,
caulk, sealants, and moisture barriers such as Tyvek

®

tighten the home, reducing air changes and locking stale
air inside. Plus, when a home can’t breathe, laundry
dryers, range hood fans, bathroom fans, and heating
appliances take more time to do their jobs, wasting
precious energy.

The lack of fresh air ventilation has become such a
problem, HVAC engineers have developed a new
standard (ASHRAE 62.2) specifying the minimum air
changes needed in any given residence. In many states,
fresh air ventilation is required to meet building codes
for new construction or to obtain energy tax credits in
existing homes.

The Field Controls Fresh Air System meets these
requirements by delivering fresh air automatically,
year round.

• Delivers fresh air automatically, year round
• Enables system to meet ASHRAE 62.2

ventilation standard

• Creates uniform temperature and humidity

throughout the home

• Enhances effectiveness of whole house
