VCI

Virtual Channel Identifier — A 16-bit value in the
ATM cell header that provides a unique identifier for
the virtual channel (VC) that carries that particular
cell.

Virtual Channel

See VC.

VLAN

Virtual Local Area Network — A group of location
and topology independent devices that communicate
as if they are on the same physical LAN.

VLT

Virtual LAN Trunk — A connection which carries
traffic for more than one VLAN. A port which is part
of a VLT connection may be a member of all VLANs.

VP

Virtual Path — Describes a set of virtual channels
(VCs) between switches, grouped together.

VPC

Virtual Path Connection — A concatenation of VP
links.

VPCI/VCI

Virtual Path Connection Identifier/Virtual Channel
Identifier — A combination of two numbers, one for
identifying the VP and one for the VCI.

VPI

Virtual Path Identifier — An 8-bit value in the cell
header that identifies the connection to which the cell
belongs.
