Modem problems

Symptom

Action

When you try to use the
modem, your computer
or modem is unable to
detect a dial tone.

1.

Make sure the telephone line is correctly connected to
your computer. If you are using other communication
devices in conjunction with the modem, such as an
asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) adapter or
home networking adapter, refer to the documentation
for those devices to ensure the cords are properly
connected.

2.

Make sure no one is using the telephone.

3.

Make sure the telephone line is working.

4.

Add the modem command

x3

to the initialization string for the communication

program you are using. For help with changing the
initialization string, refer to the documentation that
comes with your communications program.
