Background

The hand-held portable telephone is one of the most
exciting and innovative electronic products ever
developed. It let’s you stay in touch wherever you
go.

Your telephone is a radio transmitter and receiver.
When it is ON, it receives and also sends out radio
frequency (RF) energy. When you use your phone,
the system handling your call controls the power
level at which your phone transmits. The power
level can range from 0.006 of a watt to 0.2 of a watt.

Exposure to Radio Frequency Energy

In August 1996, the Federal Communications
Commissions (FCC) adopted RF exposure guidelines
with safety levels for hand-held wireless phones.
Those guidelines are consistent with the safety
standards previously set by both U.S. and interna-
tional standards bodies:

ANSI C95.1 (1992) American National Standards
Institute, NCRP Report 86 (1986) National Council
on Radiation Protection and Measurements,
ICNIRP (1996) International Commission on Non-
Ionizing Radiation Protection.

The design of your phone complies with the FCC
guidelines (and those standards).
