Some 1997 Ford Power Strokes may
display a check engine light when a
SmartLock is used on the vehicle. This
is not an indication of a problem, but
can be easily corrected using this
Repair Kit.

The Repair Kit consists of a jumper
wire with two connectors and a wire
splice. This kit, in conjunction with a
software upgrade to the SmartLock
module, is designed to correct the
check engine light and diagnostic
code P0743. NOTE: The repair kit
will not correct PO743 diagnostic
trouble code unless the SmartLock
module’s software has been
upgraded.

1.

Turn the ignition key off and

disconnect the positive terminal of the
battery(s).

2.

Locate the SmartLock module.

Remove the connector from the
module.

3.

Looking at the back of the

connector (wire side), slide the
terminal of the White Jumper Wire
into cavity 1 of the connector until it

is fully seated. Lightly pull on the
wire to ensure it is fully locked into
the connector body.
(See Figure 1).

NOTE: Cavity 1 is unused and
there should be no wire present
prior to the installation of the
jumper.

4.

Locate the wire that is inserted into

cavity 10 of the connector, this should
be a GREEN wire. Approximately
