MAINTENANCE & REPAIR

PAGE E − 10

NOTE

Be sure the seal plate is tight against the pedestal
while measuring this clearance.

After the back clearance is set, secure the impeller
with the hardware (38, 39 and 40).

Pump Casing Installation

If the wear plate assembly (41) was removed, posi-
tion the replacement wear plate assembly squarely
against the casing shoulder and secure it with the
mounting hardware (42 and 43).

Install the same thickness of pump casing gaskets
(9) as previously removed. Secure the pump cas-
ing (1) to the seal plate and pedestal with the nuts
(37).

A clearance of .008 to .015 inch (0,20 to 0,38 mm)
between the impeller and the wear plate is also rec-
ommended for maximum pump efficiency. Set this
clearance by adding or removing gaskets in the
pump casing gasket set (9) until the impeller
scrapes against the wear plate when the shaft is
turned by hand. After the impeller scrapes, add ap-
proximately .010 inch (0,25 mm) of gaskets.

NOTE

An alternate method of adjusting this clearance is to
reach through the discharge port and measure the
clearance with a feeler gauge. Add or subtract
pump casing gaskets until the proper impeller
clearance is attained.

Secure the pump casing to the base with the pre-
viously removed hardware. Be sure to reinstall any
leveling shims used under the mounting feet of the
pump casing.

If a lifting eye was used to move the pump casing,
be sure to remove the lifting eye from the pump
casing.

Do not attempt to lift the complete pump
unit using the lifting eye. It is designed
to facilitate removal or installation of in-
dividual components only. Additional
weight may result in damage to the
pump or failure of the eye bolt.

Suction Check Valve Installation

(Figure 1)

Inspect the check valve components and replace
them as required. Subassemble the check valve
weights (55 and 56) and gasket (57) using the at-
taching hardware (53 and 54).

Install the check valve assembly in the valve seat
(46). Replace the seat gasket (45), and secure the
valve seat to the suction port using the round head
machine screws (51). Replace the suction flange
gasket (47), and secure the suction flange (48) to
the seat with the nuts (50).

Check the operation of the check valve to ensure
proper seating and free movement.

Final Pump Assembly

Be sure the pump and power source are securely
mounted to the base. Reconnect the power source
to the pump.

Install the suction and discharge lines and open all
valves. Make certain that all piping connections are
tight, properly supported and secure.

If a lifting eye was used to move the pump casing,
be sure to remove the lifting eye from the pump
casing.

Be sure the pump and power source have been
properly lubricated, see LUBRICATION.

Fill the pump casing with clean liquid. Reinstall the
fill plug (8) and tighten it.

Refer to OPERATION, Section C, before putting
the pump back into service.
