Assembly

Important Note: When taking a sample reading, the filling hole must be open.

1. Remove the electrode from the electrode storage cap (

Figure 1

, item

6

).

2. Rinse the electrode with deionized water and blot dry with a paper towel. Do not

scrub the bulb.

3. Open the filling-hole cap (

Figure 1

, item

2

).

4. Cut the end of the filling-solution container.

Note: Do not cut too low. The dispensing tube is tapered to enable control over the flow of
filling solution.

5. Fill the electrode with reference electrolyte filling solution.

6. Attach a pair of color-code clips to the electrode and cable connector

(

Figure 1

, item

3

).

7. When ready to use, attach the electrode storage cap to the electrode storage cap lid

(

Figure 1

, item

5

) to prevent storage solution spillage and/or loss of the cap when not

in use.

Calibration

For calibration steps, refer to the HQ Portable Meters User Manual. The IntelliCAL™
probes store the current calibration and calibration history in the probe memory. It is not
necessary to recalibrate when moving a calibrated electrode from one meter to another.

Maintenance

Important Note: Never use this electrode in organic solvents.

Important Note: Do not scrub the bulb. If the bulb becomes fouled, immerse and agitate
in a warm dilute mild detergent solution for a few minutes, rinse well with deionized water,
and gently blot or air dry prior to reuse.

General Maintenance

Before measuring a new sample, rinse the electrode with deionized water and blot dry
with a paper towel.

If calibration errors occur, recalibrate using fresh, high-quality buffers.

If the pH glass membrane is not properly hydrated soak the electrode in pH 4 buffer
for up to two hours.

To minimize any shift in the reference junction potential, ensure that the speed of
stirring during calibration and sample measurement is consistent.

If the reference junction becomes clogged, readings may be unstable, electrode slope
may be low, and/or buffers may not be auto-recognized during calibration. Soak the
electrode tip in a 60

°C water bath for 10 minutes. Be certain to keep the reference

electrolyte replenished to no lower than 1 inch (2.54 cm) of the filling hole.
