PERIODIC INSPECTION (ENGINE):

The following table outlines maintenance procedures and

recommended service intervals.

Check engine oil . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Before each use
Change engine oil . . . . . . . . . . . . After first 20 hours and then

every 50 hours of operation

Clean air filter. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Every 50 hours of operation
Clean spark plug . . . . . . . . . . . . Every 100 hours of operation
Clean spark arrestor . . . . . . . . . . Every 50 hours of operation

Oil Type. Use new good quality oil such as SC, SD, and

SE grades. The oil to be used depends upon the temperature
at which the engine is operated:

Summer: (temperatures of over 40 degrees F/10 degrees

C) SAE 30 or SAE 10W-30, SAE 10W-40

Winter: (temperatures of below 40 degrees F/10 degrees

C) SAE 20 or SAE 10W-30

FUEL FILTER

These generators are equipped with a separate fuel shut

off and inline fuel filter. No regular maintenance is required
except to inspect and replace if clogged.

WARNING: Gasoline is very dangerous.

Serious injury may result from fire caused by
gasoline contacting hot surfaces.

SPARK PLUG

Remove the spark plug and

clean the electrodes section with a
wire brush or sandpaper. Next, set
the gap at .028 (0.6-0.7 mm) by
adjusting the negative electrode.

CAUTION: Replace with only the same type of
spark plug which was removed. An improper
spark plug can cause the engine to overheat,
emit smoke, or otherwise perform poorly.

SPARK ARRESTER MUFFLER

This engine is

equipped with a U.S. Forest
Service approved spark
arrest muffler. It should
periodically be cleaned to
prevent the screen from
becoming clogged, which
could hamper engine
performance.

To clean, remove the

muffler shield. Remove the
four screws and pull the

plate with the screen attached. Clean off any particles with a
brush and reinstall. Be sure gasket is in place.

AIR CLEANER-FILTER ELEMENT

A clogged air filter

decreases engine efficiency
and increases fuel
consumption and engine
wear. Cleaning the filter at
the recommended intervals
is necessary for good
engine performance.

Note: In case engine

is used under very dusty
conditions, clean air
cleaner once a day or
every 10 working hours.

The Pulse Series generators contain a paper element air

filter. In normal conditions, clean every 25 hours by gently
tapping to remove dirt. Replace when beyond cleaning.

ELECTRONIC IGNITION (TIC)

The engine is equipped with a Transistor Ignition System

(TIC). This device controls the ignition electronically and offers
trouble-free and maintenance-free operation for a long period of
time without polishing or adjusting the contact point.

EXCITING THE GENERATOR

If there is a loss of residual magnetism in the rotor (voltage

will not build up), it may be necessary to re-excite the unit.
Contact your local service center or the Coleman Powermate
Service Department for assistance.

INFREQUENT SERVICE

If the unit is used infrequently, difficult starting may result.

To eliminate hard starting, run the generator at least 30 minutes
every month. Also, if the unit will not be used for some time, it
is a good idea to drain the fuel from the carburetor and gas
tank.

LONG TERM STORAGE

When the generator set is not being operated or is being

stored more than one month, follow these instructions:

1.

Replenish engine oil to upper level.

2.

Drain gasoline from fuel tank, fuel line and carburetor.

3.

Pour about one teaspoon of engine oil through the spark
plug hole, pull the recoil starter several times and replace
the plug. Then pull the starter until you feel the piston is on
its compression stroke and leave it in that position. This
closes both the intake and exhaust valves to prevent the
inside of the cylinder from rusting.

4.

Cover the unit and store in a clean, dry place that is well
ventilated away from open flame or sparks.

NOTE: The use of a fuel additive, such as Coleman
Powermate Generator Fuel Additive

®

, or an equivalent,

will minimize the formulation of fuel gum deposits
during storage. Such an additive may be added to the
gasoline in the fuel tank of the engine, or to the
gasoline in a storage container.
