Pressure Rating

Maximum working pressure – 125 psi / 850kPa.

If your fluid system is suspected to have high night time pressures or occasional

high pressure surges/water hammer (which can be induced by the quick acting

valves in equipment such as washing machines and dishwashers)

or the pressure

is regularly/typically over 100 psi / 680 kPa - then it is recommended that an

anti-hammer device (before/after) or a pressure reducing valve be installed before

the filter housing.

Installation

Housings are easily installed on cold water lines. The water supply should be

turned off at the meter or, preferably, a shut off valve installed before (and after is

also recommended) the housing inlet to allow for easy installation/replacement of

cartridges.

When installing your housing allow a minimum of 2” (50mm) clearance

BELOW the

housing bowl for cartridge replacement. The filter housing connections (inlet/outlet)

are standard ½”, ¾”, 1”, 1 ½” connections and can easily be installed on copper,

plastic or galvanised pipe by use of the appropriate fittings.

Brackets should be used for mounting the filter housing unit to avoid bending pipe

during installation and when replacing cartridges (galvanised mounting brackets

and screws are supplied).

Once the housing head has been properly connected to the pipework, place the

filter cartridge in the bowl and slowly screw bowl onto the head. Open the tap

downstream of the filter and then open the inlet valve. When all air has escaped

from the housing, downstream tap can be turned off.

Caution: The housing must be protected against freezing. Failure

to do so may result in cracking of the housing and water leakage.

Sediment Cartridge Filter Life

Once the housing is properly installed, a reduction in flow/pressure (to such an

extent as to cause inconvenience) will indicate when the cartridge is becoming

clogged and needs replacing/cleaning. Sediment cartridges should be replaced/

cleaned/sanitised when the water flow has been noticeably reduced/or after 3-6

months - whichever comes first (this is for hygiene reasons).

Activate Carbon Cartridge Filter Life

These should be replaced when they no longer remove taste or odour from the

water, or when blocked, or after 6 months - whichever comes first (the latter

recommendation is for reasons of hygiene - Bacteriostatic cartridges can be used

up to a maximum of 12 months).

Changing the Filter Cartridge

1. Turn off the valve to stop the flow of water.

2. Release the pressure by opening a tap downstream, or use the pressure relief

valve that is available in the lid of some filter housings.

3. Unscrew the bottom housing from the lid and pull out the used cartridge and

discard or wash. The inside of the filter housing and the lid should be checked

for cleanliness - they will usually need to be cleaned or sanitised - use hot

water and dishwashing liquid, thoroughly scrub all surfaces and then rinse.

4. Check that the oring is in position in the top of the housing base, lubricate with

a coating of white petroleum jelly (Vaseline), place the oring into the groove

and with two fingers wipe the oring down into the groove. Do not wipe the oring

clean of lubricant after it has been properly seated in the groove because the

lubricant prevents “crawling” of the oring during the tightening of the lid and

thus prevents water leaks.

5. Screw the housing onto the lid and hand tighten. Open the tap downstream of

the filter and then open the inlet valve.

NOTE: Actual filtration/purification life of cartridge can vary with the

condition of incoming water.

WARNING: DISINFECTION MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED ON UNTREATED

WATER SUPPLIES. We recommend STERIFLO

®

Ultraviolet Disinfection

Systems.

IMPORTANT: When opening the filter housing to install or change the

cartridge (element) it is common for the oring seaI to lift out of the groove

and, at times, it may even stick to the cap.

CAUTION WHEN INSTALLING

1. This is a plastic product with a female thread. If you cross-thread a

male fitting, and/or you over pack with sealing tape, you could do

permanent damage.

2. If you use a tapered thread male fitting do not over tighten.

3. No warranty claims will be considered for damage due to incorrect

installation.

WARNING: CAREFULLY AND GENTLY TIGHTEN WITH HOUSING SPANNER

as the bowl should only be tightened enough to avoid water leaking

during operation.

CAUTION: In some countries metal pipework is used as earth. If applicable

in your country, housings installed on metal pipelines must have a jumper

wire installed from the metal pipe on the inlet to the metal pipe on the

outlet. This work must be carried out by a suitably qualified person.

WARNING: If the water system is not going to be used for extended

periods, the cartridge should be removed from the housing and replaced

with a new or cleaned cartridge when the system is used again.

WARNING: Do not over tighten inlet/outlet connections - stripped threads

will result.

What is “Water Hammer”?

Water hammer occurs when water flowing through a pipeline is stopped abruptly.

A high intensity pressure wave then travels back and forth through the piping

system - which can cause a pounding / knocking noise - and can result in costly

damage to pipe, fittings, seals - and equipment such as water purifier modules.

Water hammer is caused by many modern lever style taps - these levers allow you to

shut off the water flow very abruptly.

Water hammer is also caused by the electrically operated solenoid valves in your

dishwashing and clothes washing machines.
