INSTALLATION

Installation of your assembled appliance involves suspending the appliance, connecting gas supply &
checking gas pressure, and ignition & 'burn-off' of ceramic radiant.

Hanging The Brooder

To hang the brooder, simply run your hook or cable
through the appropriate hole on the hanging bracket.
Be certain to re-level the brooder after the gas line is
connected for proper operation.

Connecting Gas Supply

NOTE: A brass barb fitting is included as an optional
attachment to the 1/8" x 5" nipple on the gas valve
assembly. If brass barb is used, then apply some type
of sealant or pipe dope to threads before screwing barb
onto gas valve nipple.
1. All brooders must be connected to gas supply with

an American Gas Association approved gas hose
and fittings. An approved hose is available at your
Hired-Hand dealer.

2. More than one brooder may be connected to one

regulator provided it can maintain the rated
pressure and flow capacity to each brooder on that
particular regulator while all brooders are in
operation.

Checking Manifold Pressure

To be performed by CERTIFIED GAS
TECHNICIAN ONLY!

Electrical Connection

Brooder must be connected to an automatic controller
with 24 VAC output signal for gas valve control. Refer
to wiring instructions provided with controller.

Warning!

First Ignition Of Brooder Will Give Off Unpleasant Odor And Smoke! THIS IS NORMAL. A 'Burn-off'

Period Is Required To Eliminate Smoke & Odor. If Possible, Run Ventilation During First Operation Of

Brooder. After 'Burn-off' Period, Brooder Will Operate Normally.

Lighting Pilot

1. Connect controller wiring to gas valve electrical terminals. Refer to instructions provided with controller.
2. Turn on main gas supply valve.
3. Insert flame into hole underneath gas shield to heat thermocouple and pilot orifice.
4. After a few seconds, depress button on the gas valve. HOLD DOWN BUTTON.
5. Pilot will ignite.
6. Release button. Remove flame from bottom of igniter shield.
7. Pilot will remain lit.

NOTE: If pilot fails to light or if pilot goes out when button is released, repeat steps 2-6. The thermocouple
operates a thermal switch that opens the gas valve on heater. Thermocouple must be hot in order for switch to
remain open.

Brooder Operation

Connect controller. Light pilot according to instructions above. Brooder will automatically turn on and off
according to signals from controller.
