Exit—Exits the MSA Device Discovery Tool.

Discovery menu

The following options are available in the Discovery menu:

Discover—Initiates a discovery search using the Advanced Discovery Options settings in the initial
display window. For more information, see

“Configuring the tool” (page 10)

. You can also perform

this task using the Discover button in the initial display window.

Refresh—Refreshes the displayed list of discovered devices. It performs a rediscovery of the
previously discovered devices and verifies if each device in the Discovered devices list is still valid
(accessible). If not, the device is evicted from the list of discovered devices. If the discovery
parameters were changed, the display is updated based on the new settings. You can also perform
this task using the Refresh button in the initial display window.

Clear—Clears all discovered information. You can also perform this task using the Clear button in
the initial display window.

Clear Cache—Clears all discovered information stored in the cache file (if caching is enabled).

Options menu

The following options are available in the options menu:

Output Format—Sets the type of file to create when exporting the discovery results to a file. Options
include XML (.xml) and Text (.txt).

Export Output to File—Exports the current discovery results to an .xml or .txt file, using the Output
Format setting. The file is automatically opened and displayed in a separate window. The default
file name is MSAExplorerReport.txt or myExplorerReport.xml, depending on the parameter setting.
When saving the file, the default location is one of the following:

In Windows environments: <%system drive%>\hp\msa\MSALogs\

In Linux environments: /var/log/hp/msa/msalogs

NOTE:

This generates the same report as File>Save, but the default filename differs and the

file is automatically opened.

Launch Telnet—Launches a Telnet session on the device selected in the Discovered devices navigation
tree. (If this option is not supported on the selected device, this option is light grey.) You can also
perform this task by right-clicking the selected device in the Discovered devices navigation tree.

Launch FTP—Launches an FTP session on the device selected in the Discovered devices navigation
tree. (If this option is not supported on the selected device, this option is light grey.) You can also
perform this task by right-clicking the selected device in the Discovered devices navigation tree.

Launch SMU—Launches the Storage Management Utility (SMU) on the device selected in the
Discovered devices navigation tree. If this option is not supported on the selected device, this option
is light grey.) You can also perform this task by right-clicking the selected device in the Discovered
devices navigation tree.

Start Log Collection—Creates a scheduled OS task to collect debug log information on the device
selected in the Discovered devices tree. The logs are saved to the following directory:

In Windows environments: <%system drive%>\hp\msa\MSALogs

In Linux environments: /var/log/hp/msa/MSALogs

Options include:

Task Schedule Type—How often to collect the data. Options include Minute, Hourly, Daily,
Weekly, Monthly, Once, Onstart, OnLogin, and OnIdle.

Username for Task Execution—Account to use when executing the collection task.
