This diagram depicts physical storage divided into

two redundancy groups. Hard drives in the odd

numbered drive bays are in redundancy group 1.

Hard drives in the even numbered drive bays are
in redundancy group 2.

Two LUNs are shown. LUNs aggregate the

storage in a single redundancy group into one or
more general “pools” of storage. The VA 7400

array will always have at least two LUNs.

One volume group is shown. Volume groups
combine one or more LUN storage pools into a

“volume” of storage that can be allocated by the

NAS 8000 operating system for use.

Two file volumes are shown. File volumes partition

the storage volumes into accessible storage (file

systems).

Seven directories/nfs shares are shown. These are

The mount points that various clients can use to

gain access to the NAS 8000 storage.
