One-time configuration data collection

Prerequisites

Ensure that the following prerequisites are met before you start the configuration data collection
for the XP and the P9000 disk arrays. These prerequisites are common for both the one-time and
scheduled configuration data collection:

Start the configuration data collection only when a command device is created on an XP or
a P9000 disk array. For more information on creating command devices, refer to the HP XP
P9000 Performance Advisor Software Installation Guide
.

If multiple SLPRs are configured in an XP disk array, select the command device in the SLPR0.
However, if you select a command device in the SLPR1 or SLPR2, the configuration information
associated with the SLPR0 cannot be accessed due to security implementations.

NOTE:

SLPR does not exist in the P9000 disk arrays. So, the above-mentioned point is not

applicable for the P9000 disk arrays.

To perform a one-time configuration data collection:
1.

Click Monitoring+Array View in the left pane.

The Array View screen appears.

2.

Click the Configuration Collection tab. The Configuration Collection table displays the list of
command device records for all the XP and the P9000 disk arrays that are monitored by HP
XP P9000 Performance Advisor.

3.

Select the command device record corresponding to the XP or the P9000 disk array for which
you want to collect the configuration data.

Alternatively, click an XP or a P9000 disk array icon displayed above the Configuration
Collection tab to view the corresponding set of records highlighted in the Configuration
Collection table. The existing set of records are automatically sorted to display the command
devices that belong to the selected XP or P9000 disk array at the beginning of the Configuration
Collection table.

4.

Retain the Collection Period as One Time (default selection).

5.

Retain the Collection Type as Outband (default selection), if you want HP XP P9000 Performance
Advisor to directly collect data from the XP or the P9000 disk array through the array SVP
(not applicable for XP1024/128 Disk Arrays). Then, proceed to step 6.

Select the Collection Type as Inband, if you want the RAID Manager Library to collect the
configuration data from an XP or a P9000 disk array and transfer to HP XP P9000 Performance
Advisor, and proceed to next step.

The inband mode of configuration data collection is supported for the P9000 disk arrays,
such as the P9500 and the XP disk arrays, such as the XP24000, XP20000, XP12000,
XP10000, and XP1024/128.

IMPORTANT:

If SVPs on the XP disk arrays are accessible, HP recommends that you use the

outband mode of configuration data collection for a non P9500 disk array. HP XP P9000
Performance Advisor receives accurate internal raw disk capacities from the non P9500 disk
array (same as displayed by Remote Web Console) when you collect configuration data
through the outband mode. For a P9500 disk array, both the inband and the outband mode
of configuration data collection provides the accurate usable capacity (same as displayed by
Remote Web Console). Collect configuration data through the inband mode for XP disk arrays
only if the outband mode is not supported, such as for XP1024/128 Disk Arrays.
