To create Snapshot pair, run the RAID Manager paircreate command. See the HP P9000 RAID
Manager Installation and Configuration User Guide
for instructions.

When the paircreate completes, pair status changes to PAIR.

Creating pairs in a consistency group

This section provides a summary of the steps needed to create pairs in a consistency group. For
the full information, see the HP P9000 RAID Manager Installation and Configuration User Guide.

Prerequisite information

Use different consistency groups for each pair sharing a P-VOL.

See the requirements for consistency groups in

“System requirements” (page 10)

. Also, review

consistency group information in the HP P9000 RAID Manager Installation and Configuration
User Guide
.

Do not mix pairs in the same RAID Manager configuration file consistency group that were
created with the At-Time Snapshot option with pairs created without the At-Time Snapshot
option. Otherwise the pairsplit command terminates abnormally and stored Snapshot data
cannot be insured.

To create pairs in a consistency group

1.

Execute the paircreate command, and include the option for specifying the consistency group
number. The At-Time Snapshot function is enabled automatically when a consistency group
number is specified.

2.

Add more pairs to a same consistency group by executing the paircreate command and
specifying the same consistency group number defined in Step 1.

Splitting a pair

Splitting a pair results in a virtual point-in-time copy of the P-VOL. When a pair is split:

The P-VOL continues receiving updates from the host, but updates are not reflected in the
V-VOL

P-VOL data blocks to be updated are first copied to the data pool. Pointers in the V-VOL follow
this original data to the data pool. maintaining the point-in-time copy.

You can split one pair or multiple pairs belonging to a consistency group.

Prerequisite information

The pair must be in PAIR status.

If a P-VOL is paired with two or more V-VOLs, none of the pairs may be in COPY(RS-R) status,
otherwise the pairsplit operation may end abnormally.

Do not execute the pairresync -restore command on a pair when a pairsplit operation is being
performed on a related pair (shares the same P-VOL). Otherwise the pairsplit operation may
end abnormally.

Snapshot does not support Quick Split mode.

See requirements for consistency group operations in

“System requirements” (page 10)

, if

applicable.

To split a pair, use the RAID Manager pairsplit command. See the HP P9000 RAID Manager
Installation and Configuration User Guide
for instructions.

To split pairs in a consistency group, use the RAID Manager pairsplit command on the consistency
group that is a target of the At-Time Snapshot function.

When the pairsplit completes, pair status changes to PSUS.
