Inspection:

If a 55 Series power sensor malfunctions, perform a visual inspection of the instrument. Inspect for signs of
damage caused by excessive shock, vibration or overheating. Inspect for broken or damaged connection port at
sensor head, or accumulations of dust or other foreign matter. Correct any problems you discover and conduct a
performance test using Boonton Power Analyzer software to verify that the instrument is properly recognized by
windows OS and operational. If the malfunction persists of the sensor device fails the performance verification,
contact Boonton Electronics for service.

Troubleshooting

This chapter explains how to fix typical software and hardware configuration issues that you may encounter. It also
provides some technical background information that can help you better understand your test environment.

How to fix “ Available Resources:0 ” problems
When you start your Boonton software application you can get the following condition message displayed -
“Available Resources:0”.
This can be the result of one of the following issues:
• No sensor is attached to your PC
• The wrong USB driver has been installed
• The USB cable or USB port are faulty
• Incorrectly configured USB hub
• More than one application has been started

The following procedures will help you to correct these problems:

No sensor is attached to your PC
Check all cable connections from your PC to your sensor. A connector may have been loosened and may not be
making adequate contact. This is especially important when using multiple sensor configurations.

The wrong USB driver has been installed
If the wrong USB driver was installed then there will be no consistent communication between your sensor and PC.
Use the following procedure to identify the installed driver. This procedure applies to Windows® XP /7 operating
system.

1. On your PC, select Start\Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers\ and then select "Device
Manager"
.
2. Select the Device Manager button. This opens the Device Manager dialog box.
5. Expand the list of Universal Serial Bus controllers. Click the ‘plus’ symbol to expand the list
