Step 3: Entering data into your Sony CLIÉ

Handheld

There are five ways to enter data into your CLIÉ handheld:

– Using the hardware keyboard

– Using Graffiti

®

writing

– Using the software keyboard (replaces the Graffiti writing area)

– Using the on-screen keyboard (appears additionally to the Graffiti

writing area)

– Using your computer keyboard

Hardware keyboard

The hardware keyboard on your CLIÉ handheld closely resembles
your computer keyboard and can be used in the same way.
To enter the numbers and marks printed in blue, press the character
key and the Fn key together. Aside from entering text, you can scroll
up, down, and sideways with the arrow keys.
For details, see "Using the hardware keyboard" in the Operating
Instructions manual.

Graffiti writing

Your CLIÉ handheld includes the Graffiti writing application as the
primary system for entering text and numbers. With Graffiti writing,
you write simple strokes with the stylus, and they are instantly
recognized as letters or numbers.
The Graffiti strokes closely resemble the uppercase letters of the
regular alphabet, which makes Graffiti writing easy to learn.

The Graffiti writing area displayed on the LCD screen is divided into
two parts: one for writing the letters of the alphabet and one for
writing numbers. The small marks at the top and bottom of the Graffiti
writing area indicate the two areas.

For details, see “Using Graffiti

®

writing to enter data” in the Operating

Instructions manual.
