LUBRICATING BEARINGS
NOTE: Operation of the unit without proper
lubrication will cause bearing failure, and pump
seizure.
NOTE: Pumps are shipped without oil. Oil lubricated
bearings must be lubricated at the job site.
Oil Lubrication: Pumps are shipped without oil. Fill the
bearing frame with oil, through the filler connection
(located on top of bearing frame), until the level reaches the
mark in the middle of the oil level sight-glass. A high
quality turbine type oil, with rust and oxidation inhibitors
should be used.
Refer to the Maintenance Section of this manual for
further details on lubrication.
SHAFT SEALING

! CAUTION
Never operate the pump without liquid supplied to
mechanical seal. Running a mechanical seal dry, even
for a few seconds, can cause seal damage and must be
avoided. Physical injury can occur if mechanical seal
fails.
The Model 3500XD pump is supplied with a cartridge
mechanical seal as standard. Cartridge seals are preset at
the factory and require no field settings. Remove the
holding clips prior to operation to correctly set the seal.
Refer to the manufacturer’s outline drawing and instruction
manual for further information.
A fresh water flush is required to lubricate and cool the seal
faces. Refer to the Operation section of this manual for
details on the seal flush system supplied with the pump.
