2. Attach a suitable vacuum hose to the Dust Extraction Adapter. The Dust

Extraction Port is designed to fit a 32mm diameter hose

3. Switch the vacuum device on before switching on the power belt file.

Switch the belt file off first, then the vacuum system

WARNING: Using the tool without vacuum dust extraction may expose the
operator to harmful dust, and may lead to a build-up of dust on internal
components, shortening the tool’s service life. Such damage is not covered
by warranty.

Operation

WARNING: Always use adequate protective equipment, including eye
protection, respiratory and hearing protection, when working with this tool.
WARNING: DO NOT touch the moving sanding belt.
Note: ALWAYS use clamps to secure your workpiece to the workbench
wherever possible.

Switching on and off

WARNING: DO NOT switch the tool on or off whilst under load, as this will
greatly decrease the service life of the On/Off Switch (2).

1. Connect the plug to the power supply
2. Hold the tool securely, with both hands, one on the Main Handle (1)

and one on the Auxiliary Handle (4), to make sure you have full control
at all times

3. Ensure the tool is not in contact with the workpiece before

commencing with switching on

4. Toggle the On/Off Rocker Switch (2) to the ‘I’ position, to start the

machine

5. Toggle the On/Off Rocker Switch into the ‘0’ position, to stop the

machine

WARNING: Lift the machine off the workpiece before switching off.
WARNING: Always wait until the machine has stopped completely before
putting it down. Always disconnect from the power supply after use.

Adjusting the belt speed

• The belt speed of this power belt file can be adjusted using the Variable

Speed Dial (3)
1. Turn the Variable Speed Dial to a higher setting, to increase belt speed
2. Turn the Variable Speed Dial to a lower setting, to decrease belt speed

Note: Adjust belt speed to best suit the work carried out, and to adapt to
material requirements. Also refer to the belt manufacturer’s instructions,
with regards to speed selection.

Power filing tips

• This power belt file is ideal

for intricate sanding and filing
tasks at places that are difficult
to access with other tools
(see Fig. C)

• Move the machine over the

workpiece surface, applying
an even, moderate pressure
until you reach the desired
surface finish

WARNING: Excessive pressure
does not lead to a faster removal
of material; it will however lead
to premature wear of the sanding
belt, and may cause damage
to the machine. Both sanding
performance and quality depend
mainly on the choice of the
correct sanding belt.
• If there are still scratches on your workpiece after sanding, refer to

‘Selecting the right grade of sanding belt’

Accessories

• A full range of sanding belts and accessories is available from your

Silverline stockist

Maintenance

General inspection

• Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight. They may vibrate

loose over time

• Inspect the supply cord of the tool, prior to each use, for damage or wear.

Repairs should be carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre.
This advice also applies to extension cords used with this tool

Cleaning

WARNING: ALWAYS wear protective equipment including eye protection and
gloves when cleaning this tool.
• Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to

wear quickly, and shorten the device’s service life

• Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth
• Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts. If dry cleaning is not

sufficient, a mild detergent on a damp cloth is recommended

• Water must never come into contact with the tool
• Ensure the tool is thoroughly dry before using it
• If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation

holes (where applicable)

Brushes

• Over time the carbon brushes inside the motor may become worn
• Excessively worn brushes may cause loss of power, intermittent failure,

or visible sparking

• If you suspect that the brushes may be worn, have them replaced at an

authorised Silverline service centre

Storage

• Store this tool carefully in a secure, dry place out of the reach of children
