Special Cuts

Cutting bowed material and round material are only examples
of special cuts.

Cutting Bowed Material

If workpiece

1 is bowed or warped, clamp

it

2 with the outside bowed face toward the

fence

3. Always make certain that there is no gap between the

workpiece, fence and table along the line of cut

4. Bent or

warped workpieces can twist or rock and may cause binding
on the spinning saw blade while cutting
(Figure 32).

Cutting Round or Irregularly Shaped Material

For round material 5 such as dowel
rods or tubing, always use a clamp 6 or

a fixture designed to clamp the workpiece firmly against
the fence 7 and table.
Rods have a tendency to roll while
being cut, causing the blade to “bite” and pull the work with
your hand into the blade (Figure 33).

Cutting thin wide Material

If workpiece

10 is thin and wide and it need to be cut in a

vertical position, clamp the workpiece against fence

9 with a

“C” clamp

8 as shown in (Figure 34).
